A few threads have recently come lose on the nano puff hoody that I bought two months ago. Aside from wearing it around the dorms, I've only worn it outside on one overnight backpacking trip where I slept with it and wore it under my pack in the morning for half an hour or so, so the wear is definitely not from use.

Is this something I should worry about — should I mail it to Patagonia for repairs, or should I ignore it since the insulation is a synthetic sheet that shouldn't shift around at all. I would stitch it back myself except the jacket isn't sewn-through. Is there any way I can fix this easily without having to send it in, like tie knots in the threads or something (I have a trip in a month or so and they said it would take them a while to do the repairs and mail back)?

Has anybody else had any experience with wear on Patagonia's nano puff products? I'm wondering if this is just a one-time deal (hoping it is — I love the jacket so far).

Thanks guy. Gotta say that I love this forum even though I only started browsing and got a membership a few weeks ago.

I have minor strays in the quilting threads on the front of my Nanopuff hoody and a bit in the arms, always thought this was normal wear and tear from being worn. This does not affect functionality

Is it the quilting or other stitches that are coming undone?

The quilting is indeed pretty week IMO, and I think they updated it on the newest version. All it does is stabilize the primaloft, so as long as about 50% is there you should be fine.

Here's a pic from my phone — I included part of the zipper to show the size.

I've had several Patagonia items fall apart on me in the past, but they always replaced them with new items when I brought them back to the shop.

you will find a few missed stitches, or loop in the stitching, on most nano puffs if you look closely. I have a few on mine

So actually, its pretty common.

I hardly consider it worth sending back for, but to each his own. Some apparently expect perfection. Call patogonia and ask them, they will likely say to sent it in.

Patagonia charges top shelf prices, if you're not happy you should be able to swap no problem. I probably would, if only for my expectations on them to deliver a top shelf product free of defects.

for the price you pay, you should get perfection

my 19$ old navy synth puffy has a loose thread or two … but nothing that compromises the stiches

I think you should send it back. Patagonia has great customer service (as they should because of their ridiculously high prices). I bought a NanoPuff and used it through the winter season (snowboarding, hiking, biking) and it was fantastic: warm, light, and weather-proof. However I started noticing the stitching was coming undone a few days into buying it. After 5 months of careful use, it had progressed to a ragged state. I brought it into the store to ask for possible repairs and they gave me the option of swapping it for another one (which would have the same stitching problems) or a full refund. I thought it was a little odd that they would not repair it but would rather give me a brand new one or refund. (I thought they were all about environmentalism??)

I felt bad about taking the full refund–afterall I had used it for 5 months–so I bought the Guide Hoody and the Ultralight Down Sweater. These are both great, but the Down Sweater is also exhibiting the same thread problems as the Nano Puff!! This annoys me because a) the threading for the Down Sweater is pretty darn important for keeping the feathers in place and b) I'm a poor college kid who buys Patagonia over NorthFace/etc only because of their environmentally-friendly mission statements. But for $200+ jackets that come undone from cheap threading, this is hugely contradictory to their Common Threads Initiative "we make useful gear that lasts you a long time" bs. Is this just a huge marketing ploy? I definitely fell for it :(
