My mother in-law who does canoe trips recently started getting in on the lightweight bandwagon due to my wife/I being able to 1 portage the trips now. She really liked my Houdini and was wondering what brands of softshell wind/light rain jackets she should look at. I'm at a loss because the Houdini I wear is 2XL and it wouldn't fit her. She is probably around 5'6" but weighs close to 300 (she wears it well but medical problems prevent her from losing weight).

Does anyone have any ideas about brands or products for people who are not slim fit but enjoy the outdoors?

Thanks!

For a wind shirt, you could check out the Cabela's Windshell Jacket. It looks similar to the Marmot Driclime and is available up to 3XL. Cabela's sizing also runs large so that may help, probably quite long in the arms and body though. It's also on sale for $25 now.

Say what you will about REI, but one thing they do well is they have made outdoor clothing for plus size women. Maybe not always the lightest, but their Sahara Pants, their rain gear, many times I can find what I need in their clothing line.
