I am considering using a firelite 500 pot, with handles (when I get one) on top of a small woodstove.
The stove will be very rudimentary-probably just a small stand (wire or Ti Stakes) surrounded by a Ti foil windscreen. Firstly, does anyone see any problems with using Ti wire or stakes or foil on a woodfire? Size of fire will be pretty small as I will use mainly twigs. Heat output will be medium to high (using ozzie Eucalyptus and native pines). Ti has a high melting point. If I also take some esbit tabs I might use a firelight Ti folding wing esbit stove as the stand when I have a woodfire. I figure I'll just cram woodfuel around and amongst the stand.
My main concern is temperature of the pot handles. They will be fine with the esbits but when I use wood the flames will be harder to contain and control. So I will use (natural fibre) possum down gloves to lift the pot off using the handles. I would just use the non-handled pot but I am likely to have a 500ml pot to the brim all the time. How well do these gloves withstand flame heat? Will repeated flame immersion over a period of say 30 cooking sessions degrade the fibres to the point of the gloves falling apart or seriously losing their insulative properties?
Another question is about the lid. I am thinking of making a baking tray alfoil lid for the pot to shave of a bit of extra weight, but I am not sure about the long term resistance of the Al to the licking flames.
