Has anyone experienced static electricity with their down jacket or bag? I was trying on a MontBell U.L. Down Inner Jacket yesterday with a rag wool sweater. When I took the jacket off it was like a Rice Krispies commercial: snap, crackle, pop!

I assume that static electricity affects loft: down clumps together or against the shell.

Share your insight.

I've noticed static with my wool top in conjunction with other items. Are you sure the root of the static wasn't with the wool sweater?

Steve, I wear my MB light alpine down jacket over a LW merino wool base layer frequently and I never noticed any static electricity..
What were those two items our high school science teachers always rubbed together to make static? Rabbit fur and an iflated baloon? Is there sommething about the conductance differential between wool and nylon which makes static more likely?
Anyone else know?

I'm sure it had something to do with it. But am wondering how this affects loft.

Slightly off topic… but last summer when I sat in the dark in my tent scratching the surface of my Ridgerest mat every time my fingernail ran over the surface it let out a greenish light. Anyone else noticed that? It was cool!
