CountyComm? :) I have the same setup but in yellow. Awesome little knife…due to its miniscule size, it takes a while to get familiar with opening it with one hand. Now just add a lil orange whistle and call it a day!

yup county comm :) they used to make a safety orange Ladybug in VG10, but it's been discontinued for some time, I finally bumped into this one and it's H1 to boot!

I've got a little Fox Micro in orange that will probably find it's way onto the neck lanyard, I think I can handle another 5 grams :)

Add the orange whistle and a mini firesteel, which also has an orange handle.

I see that Bison Designs is making their spy capsules in orange too, so you can carry some dry tinder.

This thread just cost me $90! Of course I had to go to the County Comm website and pick up the knife, the kydex sheath, split pea lighter, micro fox whistle, and a micro signal mirror…

Did you go for the titanium split pea lighter? I had to resist hard when I saw that thing.

Welcome to the club Chris! I own all the items you listed either through personal purchase or gifts. The split pea is a bit gimmicky, the micro mirror is great, and the knife and sheath are superb. Interesting enough, they accidently sent me a micro grabbling hook instead of the split pea lighter, and they let me keep it because of their mistake. Now that's the biggest gimmick I've ever seen…can't imagine it being useful for anyone other than EOD technicians trying to setoff bomb tripwires in a far off land. Enjoy your new toys!

On a side note, one of these days, i'm going to cave and get one of those marathon SAR watches….those things are beasts!

So, those spy capsules–how easy is it to get *out* whatever you put *in*? What are you jamming inside one of those? I typically carry cotton balls + petroleum jelly, which is fun to get out of a film cannister–I'm thinking that might be impossible to get out of a spy capsule.

I like to make firestraws w/ cotton and vaseline, seal one end of the straw w/ some heat and pliers, stuff with a mix of cotton/vaseline (using a toothpick or similar), seal the other ends and when needed just break open a straw for one fire- you can make them any length, probably could fit several in a "spy" capsule

tinder tabs would probably also be a good fit for the smaller capsules

With a truly "mini" firesteel (3.7 grams) also stored in the capsule, you can use the firesteel to "pry" the last of the tinder from the capsule —

Guess you can even paint one end of the firesteel orange to stay color-coordinated, and maybe not lose it.

A nice bright orange "charm" necklace though is a tempting idea for me!

After a certain point, it becomes a bit too much. I originally had on my neck lanyard 1) fox 40 whistle 2) spyderco ladybug 3) photon type light and 4) an exotac striker. I felt like I was wearing a utility belt around my neck. Too much jingling, and heavy to be unnoticeable.

Although the exotac firesteel is very light in itself, when you add it to a neck lanyard it becomes quite noticeable. I actually like Mike's original depicted setup. Just keep the firesteel and whistle in the pocket :)

To solve the problem of removing the vaselined cotton from the spy capsule, I bent a small piece of paper clip wire into an elongated "L", with the bottom of the "l" at the bottom of the capsule, and the top sticking above the lip. Removing some cotton is done by lifting the wire – the whole mass of oily cotton comes up, and you can tear off what you need.

Come on now! Aren't your sunglasses set up with night vision capability, the mini flashlight is dead weight. Plus, doesn't your toothbrush have the hidden knife in the shank?

Is that little knife really worth $45? It looks identical to the ones in the under-a-buck impulse buy box at the gas station… I've bought a couple of those, and they seem to cut just fine, weigh less than an ounce, and last long enough to lose them. By the way, at under a buck, I don't really care if my son swipes them and loses them (try that with a $45 knife).

Is this another case of "they must be worth it or they wouldn't charge that much".

I went with the non-titanium split pea lighter. I couldn't pull the trigger on the more expensive one knowing that this was somewhat gimmicky and an impulse purchase. :)

worth $45? hard to say, these definitely aren't your $1 throwaway knives though

H1 steel is a pretty high end steel- it's used around salt water w/ no ill effects, so water isn't going to be a problem; it also sharpens up nicely- no problem getting a hair popping edge :)

the lock setup is top notch and the knife comes w/ hex heads so you can adjust the tension of the blade (and also disassemble the knife if need be)

Spyderco has a very good reputation and stands behind their warranty

you can get the Ladybug in VG10 for around $25, VG10 is also a very good steel- so that might be an option for some; if they still had the VG10 model in orange I probably would have picked it up

Picked up my yellow Ladybug in H1 on the 'bay for $31 BIN shipped… I decided the orange color wasn't worth the extra $$, and I do like the yellow as well. This is my everyday carry knife + UL backpacking knife. Very happy with the Spyderco products I own.

Just spotted this on EDCF last night and purchased today. This is an amazing minimalist set-up.

Also, CountyComm is having a sale on these right now. They cut the price of the knife down from $44.50 to $37.95

Still pretty expensive in my book, but I think it will be worth it.
