So pulled the trigger on the Hexamid Solo tarp and now going through the dilemma of what to put under it (groundcloth, bug net, ccf, bivy). At first it seemed no question to me, go bivy. But then looking at weight and knowing that bugs are not really a problem in my area, I have begun to question my initial thought.
One consideration I am giving it going with the GG 1/4" Wide CCF pad as a combined groundcloth and pad then using a GG sit rest on top for my head or torso depending on the ground conditions. According to specs the CCF pad will cover almost the entire area of the Hexamid. While I might have to replace the 1/4 every so often, it seems like the best situation. I am one that can sleep on solid ground with no problem so I think the 1/4" would suffice.
4.2oz Hexamid, ~10oz CCF gives 14.2oz but that eliminates my 12oz Kooka Bay 72” Mummy Pad.
I could go with the 3.4 oz cuban ground sheet and a 3.3oz GG torso pad for a 4.2 + 3.4 + 3.3 = 10.9oz but i am not sure if the torso pad would provide the overall comfort and full body warmth the sheet of 1/4" pad will provide (I could move around a bit more on the 39" wide 1/4" pad compared to the 18" wide 3/4" torso pad).
Any opinions would be awesome in helping me decide. Also, if you have another option for a hexamid solo tarp that does not include bug netting I would love hearing!
Thanks,
Chase
