Can anyone give me a specific source for sheet foam that would be good for making my own insoles? This would be to both replace worn out insoles and to create an extra layer of light insulation in winter. I've tried commerical insoles of various sorts and most have way too much arch support for me. I've ordered sheet foam from a couple sources, but it's always been too flexibe, or the material has crushed down flat permanently.
Anyone know a sheet foam that is light, not too flexible, and doesn't crush?
I saw it mentioned in an old thread that blue closed cell foam (CCF) works, but where can you get that in something like 1/8" or 1/4" thicknesses?Dec 26, 2011 at 4:30 pm #1816004This stuff is cheap and 1/8" thick. Also good for shoulder straps and hipbelts on a light pack too.

Dec 26, 2011 at 5:42 pm #1816017There are a few interesting winter insoles out there, with no arch support (just flat, or at least they look that way):

Dec 26, 2011 at 5:45 pm #1816019I have made sandals out of blue CCF that also doubles as insoles. They work okay around camp, but are so thick that my heel feels like it's going to fall off the side. I would also like to find foam that's both thinner and stiffer. I believe EVA foam sleeping pads have a density around 24. Stiffer EVA foam is made, but it's tough to buy it in small amounts. I believe someone here bought EVA foam from foamorder.com and said it was stiffer than expected, so that might be a good candidate for insoles.
Having said all that, those NEOS insoles are probably the way to go.

Might be worth a shot. -
