Anyone have any experience doing winter-time backpacking in the White Tank Mountains on the west side of the Phoenix area? I am curious if there are places I can count on for pumping water, and whether the "established backcountry campsites" are anything to write home about. I'd like to get out for a long weekend next month and haven't done much in that area, but I see the park website indicates that overnight backpacking is permitted.
I'm headed there for a family day-hike next week and can ask the staff there at that time, but I'm curious if any BPL'ers have given it a try.
