I have been trying a few set up's and though I would post some pics of what is working very well for me right now as this comes up a lot.
I use this on the AT for two people filling two bladders at streams mostly.
Cut off nalgen canteen top and mark level, dip in stream and treat. I pour the water thought a coffie filter into bladders to get out any nasties.
With a helper it goes very fast.

A very simple and light setup. I have been carying a wide-mouth naglene canteen, but this is a lighter option….I llike
How long does one filter last?

Dec 18, 2011 at 6:07 am #1813462I carry about 4-5 of them in the zip bag and use one two or three times.
I keep the bladder on top of everthing in my pack and put the filter I'm using on it to dry a bit.

Dec 18, 2011 at 9:19 am #1813503Other than the filter, it's the same rig I carry. I hadn't thought of tucking the Nalgene into the Opti cover – thanks!
Dec 18, 2011 at 10:25 pm #1813703I usually have a 1.3 liter pot for 2 people, so we use that to treat the water in. We also added one of these filter funnels (0.5oz). It's handy for filling water containers with a small openings, but we usually don't bother using it.

I like the idea about the funnel, and I use one of those to fill my white-gas equipment. That's light and I think it might work fine for Scout patrols. Thanks!Dec 19, 2011 at 8:39 am #1813803See the thread where I made a coffee filter holder from a seal-a-meal bag at 4.7g:
