Not exactly UL but I know many folks will not compromise their morning brew in the name of saving weight. you know who you are.

I picked one of these grinders up the other day and look forward to some cowboy coffee if the grind is fine enough. There's this Mediterranean deli next to to where I work so I've developed a taste for "Turkish" style (cowboy) coffee, which is handy as it means I won't have to lug around any other coffee paraphernalia :)

Anyone care to share their experiences with this bit of kit? I was thinking of cutting it down some to try to make it more compact, but it looks like it might end up more trouble than it's worth… anyone done this?

cheers

I've got one that I picked up in a yard sale. I find it to be slow and fairly erratic on the grind quality. I even tried it attached to my cordless drill (per some reviews on Amazon) and that wasn't much better. It's not a good replacement for a Cuisinart electric grinder, and if you are without electricity in the backcountry, a cup of Via is tough to beat for convenience and quality – even with a french press. I'd give it 2.5 out of 5 stars. Clever, and a great conversation piece to pull out of a pack, but heavy and you'd be better off pre-grinding your coffee, IMHO.
