Not that I need anymore gear until something wears out but this is what I have ready for trips. The idea is that I can get ready for a weekend trip in as little as an hour.

    In my go box:
    First aid kit
Toiletries Kit (sunscreen, lip balm, bodyglide, baby powder, toothpast, toothbrush, hand sanitizer)
Essentials Kit (knife, lighter, matches, headlamp, spaceblanket, papper, pen, tenacious-tape)

    Water treatment
    (2)water bottles
Coffee filter for filtering out the big junk
cut down soft sided canteen for scooping up water

    (3) stuff sacks

    Tarp
    Bivy
    Inflatable Pillow
    C.C.F sit pad

    Fleece hat
    Fleece Gloves
    Sleeping socks
XL ziplock bag used as packliner

    Caldera Cone w/ container
    Ti Pot
    Sport
    Oska Plate

    Hanging up nearby:
    Sleeping bag
    Pack
    Sleeping Pad
    Puffy Jacket
    Puffy Pants
Maps and field guides w/ compass

    In the fridge:
Ziplock bags of home made dehydrated dinners, just scoop up a cup and go.
    Gernola
    Energy Bars
    Energy Gell
    Powdered drink mixes
Peanut butter M&M's and snickers bars.

Man, you are looking in the wrong end of the telescope. It ain't about the gear, it's about where you are going. Plan the trip. Take what you need.

    Enjoy the adventure. Repeat.

Do not confuse the gear with the adventure.

I think that for most (if not all of us), the experience/adventure absolutely trumps the gear in terms of importance.

However, that doesn't stop the gear from being fun, both in the ways it sometimes enhances the experience, and in and of itself. Not as something replacing/being confused for adventure, but something separate and enjoyable in its own right. At least for many of us.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Nor with threads like this one.

I think the number one piece of gear on my "bucket list" would have to be a decent sewing machine.

I'd love to someday own a cuben flat tarp. I'd also love to have one of the new wpb uber-fabric shells that are hitting the market these days. That and a cuben down quilt… really all I want to do is fit a three-season multi-day setup into one of these: http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/50313_2615836999_120_n.jpg

I technically already can with what I own now, but it comes pretty close to bursting the seams and requires maximum use of the side mesh pockets and the stuff straps on the outside. A backpack inconspicuous in urban settings but containing all I need to hit the trail is my ideal.

A car? A plane? All I want is ride to all the trailheads around the world, and a watch that ticks the time away a whole lot slower.
