I am considering buying a British multimat sleeping pad and wanted to compare its insulation value with other mats. But unfortunately mulitmat gives only tog values on their website, not R values.
After having done a bit of research on how what the difference between those two values is I am more confused than before. I realise now that R value does not equal tog value but how do you convert tog into R and vice versa?

1 tog = 0.57 R
1 R = 1.8 tog
The chart on that site is misleading. The "R" value they are referring to there is the SI system R value, which is 5.7 times "higher" than the imperial R value that is used on sleeping mats. So, an Exped mat with a quoted (imperial) R-value of 3 has an SI R-value of .528 and a Tog value of 5.28. The Multimats actually have relatively low insulation values of about 2.5 tog or only 1.42 R-value compared to 2+ for most inflatable mats.
