I hear ya Jeremy. Even OTC meds (drugs) can cause a problem if you give the wrong thing. If you mix up aspirin and ibuprofen and give aspirin to someone allergic to it…if you give aspirin to a child…it goes on and on. People die on a regular basis from OTC meds. Always know what you are putting in your mouth.

This is a very comprehensive and thorough list for the contents of a first aid kit. You can make it from scratch, or you can buy an already assembled kit from an online medical supply store. They tend to be cheaper online than assembling one from scratch.
I look at what i need to treat and base my kit on that. In the end i take 5 m duct tape, pills, needle and thread.
For breaks, tree branches and duct tape
For blood clothes and cordade from bear bag or tent. Needle and thread for stiches (also part of repair kit)
For pain pills
Infection is treated after exiting the backcountry. I have considered adding a coagulant to stop bleeding
Anything else overwelms my ability to treat or is more nuisince that real risk.
