Hello,
I am looking to buy hiking trousers. Having reviewed maaany threads on this and other fora, I decided to go with Arc'Teryx Gamma. The question is: LT, MX, or maybe AR?

Idea:
I have Sahara-type convertible pants which I happily use in the summer on low and mid-altitude hikes (read: no-snow). I am buying separately hard shell pants. I need something to fill the gap -> to use when hiking in Alps when it is not raining (hopefully both winter & summer if possible), to use on my coming trip to Kilimanjaro during the summit etc.

Which of these three would be the best choice? MX seems to be much more durable than LT, but I am afraid it might be too hot when climbing in the summer. On the other hand, I am not sure whether LT's would be a good choice for e.g. Alpine trips in fall…

Thank you for help!

I own an use the dead bird gamma lts

I used them in the rockies this summer on climbs

You can also use em in the fall or winter … Simply wear some long underwear

You can also find cheaper equivalents at half the price at patagucci, OR, MH, etc …

Ismail

Check out the patagucci rock guide and simple guide pants … They are one piece of pata gear that is reasonably priced !!!

Mh had the chockstone pants but i believed its now discontinued

Many manuf have ones in the 10-12 oz range … As long as its stretch woven it all works the same

The trick is to renew the dwr every so often

Id post up a few more but im still in my iphone

Ouuuups…. Having visited the store I have just realized that all the stuff by Arcteryx is just HUGE.

A little question: do you know any good companies which provide garments in European, rather than American sizes? Read: significantly more slim-cut, including *real* 30'' trousers (30'' by Arc'teryx is much bigger than some of my 32'' waist trousers, I checked the labels three times!).

I have seen that Patagonia seems to have smaller/more tailored sizes…

Thank you for help!

I actually found the dead bird gamma lts to be not baggy at all and sized properly … Must be getting fat … Need to layoff the cheezy poofs

U can also try the women sizes for a trimmer fit … Or some euro brands

well upon inspecting my old Uniqlo stretch pants I found it only weighs 10.6oz… lol not bad considering i got it for only about 13 bucks :p

Eric – what are the European brands of similar quality to Arc'Teryx and Patagonia?

I am quite a newbie so I am still learning the most obvious things…

I ordered some LTs in a recent sale (40% off basically).

The MX is going to be way too hot for summer use. Everything I read about the LTs indicate high durability. I'm sure if you take price into account, LT is going to be more durable (less $$$ damage per use).

Try to get the LTs in the ironwood (not black color) for summer use.

Try Westcomb (Canadian) and Norrona (Norse). Norrona is available through Backcountry.com Wild Things in New Hampshire used to have an athletic fit, haven't tried any of their new line.

I use the Deadbird Gamma LT, my wife uses the Patagonia Simple Guides. We have used these from summer in the Sierra to Summiting Kilmanjaro- just added Icebreaker 260 Baselayers and OR Croc Gaitors.

YMMV,
Christo
