Hey folks,
I am in need of a new pair of mittens to wear while in camp in freezing/sub-freezing temps (32F-10F). I'm looking for a simple lightweight mitten with synthetic insulation that will work with the MLD EVent rain mitten, but does not come with it's own shell. I like the liner that comes with the OR Alti Mitten but, they do not sell it as a stand alone item. I've looked around and can't find anything I like. Suggestions?

made to be used under a shell … primaloft … $28 … only problem is that you need to take a trip to the land of beavers and maple syrup ;)

Another option would be the Berghaus Ignite Mitts. I used them during the last winter and I am really satisfied with them
@Eric,
You get an A+. This is exactly what I'm looking for and the price is excellent. Do you have a pair and do you know if the 106 gram weight is for a pair of mittens or per mitt? Thanks!
In my experience the most reliable mitten and glove liners are fleece liners. These liners dry faster than shelled poly fiber liners and do not compress with use like shelled poly fiber liners.
For the very coldest weather I use an OR GTX shell over an EMS double fleece liner.
Yep, this liner was made with two layers of 200 et. fleece. Nothing down to -40 F. has ever been too cold for this shell/liner combo.
In the late '70s and 80's I used a mitten shell of leather palms and nylon backs with a Dachstein boiled wool liner. Absolutely good at -25 F., as I experienced while patrolling the biathalon event at the 1979 pre-Olympics at Lake Placid, NY.
+1 on the dachsteins. i have both boiled and regular pair and they rock for warmth. i wear a pair of pearl izumi fleece gloves under an or gtx mitt shell and they can take me sub-0*. i also have a pair of the or lobster mitts with the double fleece liners for when the weather is truly brutal.

michael …. ive used the older versions … i believe that the weight is for the pair … you can contact MEC and ask …
if these versions are the same as the ones ive used before … the insulation is expedition grade … which means itll be at least as warm as the stuff in my mercury mitts
A big thanks to all who chimed in on this thread. Cheers!!
