R1 Equivalent?

Interesting but from the website, the Airflyte looks more to be a baselayer, like a Pata Sun Hoody without handwarmer pockets, than a waffle fleece like the R1

No mention of it being a fleece or the weight, which are posted on most fleece garments. Add that waffle grid (fleece) garments are referred as such in the REI category 'running shirts' – look at the links on the upper left of the page you referenced and see all the similar garments.

Hey there,

I'll give my 2 cents. I own an R1 hoody and I tried that REI piece on at the store a while back. It is pretty nice. I would say some of the uses for the two would be the same.

I think the R1 is better as a midlayer which is what it is intended for. The R1 should be warmer.

The Airflyte has much more stretch to the fabric but is not as thick. I think it would be better as an outer layer for cool conditions. I wouldn't take it as a mid layer for cold conditions.
