I see that Gerber is offering a line of hydration packs that have rigid resevoirs– something similar to a milk jug. Sounds like an opportunity to design an ultralight pack around a rigid water tank and use that for a frame as well.

I would sdd a port in the bottom of the pack to run the hose out and avoid the hassle of threading the thing through the inside of the pack (small pet peeve of mine).

I haven't researched if the resevoir is available seperately– you might be able to silicone it to the back panel of an existing pack. Thick strips of Velcro might work well enough to get the weight transfer too.

I think you can see the advantage– you have this rigid box with a dual purpose built into the pack. I'm sure it would be heavier than a Platypus. If someone were to make a rigid bladder with mounting flanges molded in and maybe a couple baffles running top to bottom to stiffen it up, you could build all kinds packs around it.

Thanks for the link. Yeah — resevoir, pack frame, butt pad, and sleeping pad sectional!
