REI Gossamer Jacket

Warmth is fantastic. I cannot compare to MicroPuff, but it does a great job of keeping you toasty. And obviously, it folds down into a very small package.

As to waterproof/resistance: I wore my Gossamer Vest (I liked the vest so much I got the jacket, too) last Thurs in Chicago during a pretty heavy drizzle/light rain. It does a fair job for, let's say 15 minutes, of shedding rain. After that time, it started to soak into the nylon, but not really the fill. It did not affect the warmth at all and the fill didn't really seem to keep any water.

All in all, a very good, lightweight jacket.

Thanks for the info Kevin. Since the MEC Northern Lite pullover has been discontinued and replaced with a much heavier hooded version (Juggernaut – 630 grams) and since the Micro Puff is pretty darn expensive, I might just have to try the Gossamer. How durable is the shell material? Do you have to be very careful with it or is it a little tougher than it looks? Thanks again

I would say some care is necessary, I have a small rip on the sleeve of my Gossamer.
The hood is wierd in that it doesnt sinch around the face, only crown of the head. It's more like a built-in beanie than a full-on hood.
Overall I like the jacket though, it's warm, light, and does well in moisture.

The shell is definitely Pertex Quantum.
