Hello all,

I am trying to find a good source for base layers made of merino wool. I know there are a lot of reputable manufacturers out there, but I am trying to find something made in the US. I'd settle for Canadian made, but I really want to buy American.

Besides Ibex, you might look at RamblersWay.com. Not only are the clothes made in the US, but the wool comes from sheep raised in the US. It's not technically merino wool, since it's from a different breed of sheep, but it feels the same to me.

I'm sorry, but are they joking? $138 for a t-shirt? $110 for boxers? I like Tom and Kate Chappell for their commitment to natural products and even use some of the Tom's of Maine line, but that's nigh on ridiculous.

I was going to comment that manufacturing in the US is more expensive, but the prices for their stuff have really jumped. When I ordered in early 2010, long johns cost $85 which is a little more than Ibex's knit in NZ stitched in US long johns ($70). But now RW's long johns are $150. As much as I'd like to support US manufacture, I don't think I can support a jump of that much in less than 2 years.

the prices at MEC are quite reasonable IMO

one place to check is costco … last year they had made in canada merino tops for 10-15$ … however that was in the canadian costcos …

Costco had some "merino" tops near Denver last weekend. I put merino in quotes because the tops were only 35% wool.
