Hey guys,
I'm a backpacker of the travel variety, and the BPL forums were super helpful and informative when I purchased winter gear last year. I was warm during a Chicago winter for the first time in my life!
I took my gear with me on a round-the-world trip, and had two pieces swiped a few months in. I'm about to head back to cold temperatures, and hope you can help me choose new gear.
I have:
Base layer: Icebreaker shirts, 150 and 200 weight
Underwear: mix of Icebreaker Beast and ExOfficio
Socks: SmartWool
My Westcomb Chimera outer and Patagonia Nano Puff inner were both stolen during my trip. I wore the Puff when the temperature began to drop, the Chimera when it was rainy or very windy, and both together during proper winter. I also had an Icebreaker hoodie for in-between temps.
I need to buy a replacement outer and inner. My budget is flexible, and I don't have a strict weight limit. Most high end gear is both light and compressible. What's harder is finding gear that is also fashionable. Both the inner and outer (since they may be worn separately) need to look normal when worn out around a city. I'm certainly not looking for Armani style, but the pieces should look like regular street wear as much as possible.
Any and all recommendations greatly appreciated!
