I wanted a knife to use at work that was small, inexpensive and easy to open. I am a fan of the Benchmade Griptilian, but didn't want to use my favorite for cutting up cardboard boxes and flipping out a 3.5" blade in a retail environment is upsetting to some customers. I do like the Benchmade Axis lock, which allows opening and closing the blade with one hand and a flick.
I did a little Web research can found the Sanrenmu GB-763 knife. The blade is 2.68" and made of 8Cr13MoV stainless steel. The scales (handles) are G-10 composite. It has a version of the Axis lock that I like so much, a pocket clip and lanyard holes. The ends of the knife have stainless steel liners with a plastic filler in the center section. That makes the knife lighter and less expensive, but still leaves some reinforcement in the blade mount and lock mechanism.
The pocket clip can be mounted on either side; with that and the lock mechanism and two thumb studs it is a fully ambidextrous knife. I'm a lefty, so that is very important to me. The blade steel is not high tech tool steel, but it is very serviceable stainless and easy to sharpen. It is a deep hollow ground, plain edged drop-point design that is thick enough to give some confidence without being too heavy. The handle is just long enough to get a full three finger grip with the little finger supporting the tail end. There is enough jimping (texturing) on the contact surfaces to give a very good grip.
I like the overall design and looks. It is tough and Spartan without looking dangerous or "tactical." It is very true to the materials and looks like stainless steel and G-10. Of course I bring it up here as it is just 2.09oz/59.2g on my scale and only 3.6"/90mm long when closed– about the length of a standard Swiss Army knife. The blade is a little short for my liking to be used for food prep, but it will still do for slicing and will open a dehydrated meal with little effort. The blade is a good shape for making tinder or doing general repairs. Best of all, you can buy one on-line for $15 or so. I think it would make a very handy and serviceable trail knife.
