So what do people wear when they want to keep their hands warm when sitting around at camp at 35 degrees. I tried my REI One gloves for that but found them lacking unless I balled up my fingers at the base of the glove. I figure mitts (like the Patagonia Micropuff or RBH Vapr Mitts) would help my hand stay warm better but I'd love to know if others use lined/insulated mitts and what the favorites are.
I have had success down to 40 degrees with Smartwool liners…with only a little moisture. They allow you to remain increbibly agile with your finger tips. I was looking at the Outdoor Research liners as well as another liner with a proprietary fabric called lavawool (Manuf. escapes me) for about the same weight. My feeling is that the Smartwool will end up wearing very fast and not hold up to any kind of driven moisture or serious wind. But I would take them in a second if I knew it would be calm and dry and not much below 35 degrees given that wearing them you do not even notice them while performing camp duties.
