I am embarking on a 5 day trip tomorrow morning in the Smokies and thought I was happy with my layering system but laying in bed at night I couldn't help but wonder if what I am carrying is overkill. I am trying to shed some bulk if possible but the gear I have is what I have.
Currently I am planning on carrying the following, either on me or in the pack.
base layer, thin Merino wool long sleeve shirt
long sleeve synthetic shirt
short sleeve lightweight under armour button up shirt
Columbia Titanium fleece
Mountain Hardware Zonal jacket (Just got this and love the construction, also feels toasty)
Sherpa rain jacket
So even typing it out feels like to much.
The temps are probably going to be in the 70s during the day and high 20s – mid 30s at night.
I will be hammocking and have a 3/4 down UQ as well as a down REI sierra, rated 30, sleeping bag to be used as a TQ.
So what do you guys think, should I drop a couple of the above?
