NOTE: i know this is a cheap device and should not be relied upon as the only navigation resource. Now with the disclaimer out of the way…

Just picked up a simple and inexpensive digital compass/altimeter/barometer with history function, weather prediction, date/time function.

It is reasonably light, but not the smallest unit. Originally I wanted to pickup a Casio Pathfinder watch, but at $130+ for a triple sensor one, this one should do.

Works on one flat battery, has a rubber seal on the battery door. Has back-light (green color) and 4 buttons to operate it. Cost was $18 at Walmart (if i remember correctly).

Here is a pic of the unit (found online).

Maybe it's good, maybe not…. will see later when i test it out against my in-car navi that has compas (based on GPS movement data) and altimeter (again – based on GPS calculations, vs pressure in this device).

I bought one of these just to use the thermometer on occasion. The only feature I wish it had was a min/max temp reading for a 24 hour period so I know how cold it got while I slept; that way I could evaluate what works or doesn't work for insulation, sleep system, etc. I dont use it much any more since I've pretty much got my insulating layers, sleep system, etc down to what I like and am comfortable in…

The listed weight is a little heavier than what it actually is (I carry it without the lanyard though)…mine weighs 1.6oz without the lanyard.

The thermometer was always within a degree or two of my weather station so it's decently accurate for what I was doing with it…

Ah, good to know.

I agree that Min/Max would be great for the obvious reasons…
