I've got a couple of shirts from his line. Craghoppers is the parent company. The shirts I have are button up "safari" style shirts. They are both a cotton/synthetic blend. There are quite comfortable and dry faster than 100% cotton, but not nearly as fast as a pure synthetic. There are polymide? (i think) options available that should dry pretty quick. The build quality and fit are great and when I lived in the dry desert I wore them often. they were nice in the sun as the collar can flip up to provide sun protection and of course the buttons can be undone and the sleeves button up for short sleeved shirt. The shirts are well thought out.
I now live in Missouri where the humidity causes a greater need for wicking and faster drying. I still wear them often as casual shirts and often get compliments on them. I would not hesitate to buy something if it meets your needs.
All that said, I think for the most part garments that accomplish the same thing can be had at a lighter weight. I mean a capilene 2 zip neck essentially does the same job at a lower weight. I would also stay away from some of their shells and insulation as much lighter garments can be had. I think in england they tend to take their shells a little more seriously simply because of the weather.
I bought a tiny "Bear" lockblade knife at Wally Mart. It's made by Gerber and is now my one knife for summer backpacking. Small and light but its 2" blade will handle all my camp & kitchen chores.
Had to braid a Triptease cord lanyard on it to keep from losing it and it does do that job well.
I've got 2 pair of craghopper pants and really like them. One is the stretch kiwi and I have them for the cooler days and the other are their bug treated kiwi. My buddy uses a pair of the Bear pants and he really likes them.
During a sale Craghoppers had on early in the summer I ordered a NosiLife Ferro shirt, NosiLife cargo trousers, and a NosiLife scarf. All are constructed using a type (not necessarily the same type for all) of polyamide. On balance I have been very pleased with all three items. The fabric on all has proven so far to be well durable. All items are to my taste temperature-wise in the heat and humidity, all dry promptly, and preform as advertised in regards to insects and sun. The stitching is not great and the zipper on one of the trouser pockets stopped meshing within a few washings. Given that I got all of the items at a deep discount I feel I got more than a fair value for the cost even with those issues. Had I paid full price the workmanship issues might have annoyed me.
i think they stopped using gore tex, no idea hat the breathability is like on their current membrane cltohes. uses a generic membrane i havent heard about.
i dont know that they do much in the way of lightweight shells. everything seems to be lined.
I've had good experience with craghoppers.
I own a few pairs of the nosilife lite craghopper trousers. I love mine. I got them on sale too last summer. I think they were 70% off at the time. They dry quickly and on my scale weigh in at 8.9 oz. I also grabbed a fleece but haven't really been able to wear it yet. It seems like a pretty tough fleece though. I also own a pair of kiwi stretch that are the only pants I climb in now.
I bought a pair of the bear survival trousers to test them out, but a zipper broke and I returned them. The next pair the hand pockets were fraying so I returned them too. The pair I have now are nice but I haven't worn them out much yet. Moral is that customer service was good. They let me return my second pair after a year of owning them.
I own the Survival Trousers. They have come on every trip I've been on for almost two years now, except for the very hottest. They aren't UL, but I rarely carry them anyway. I love the fit, and the pockets are extremely functional. Things feel very secure in the cargo pockets. I like the stretch panels for kneeling quite a bit. I will be disappointed when they finally wear out, but aside from a few small burn holes, they are holding up well.
i really wanted to like the pants i got (bear's survival trousers) but the fit was just plain weird. a very tight waist and seemed to be built to wear way up high over hips. perhaps i just wear my pants weirdly. unfortunately i had the send them back…
however, i really liked the design of the pants…
