Has anybody ever hiked in leather soled moccasins? What was the comfort like? Durability? It seems like that would be an option for very minimal footwear.

I haven't hiked in leather-soled moccasins, but I've spent many years walking around in them. Mostly I wore 2-layer sole types.
Very comfortable and pretty light weight.
If you step on a rock or root that is kinda pointy and hard, you're gonna have a bruise. If it happens on your heel, you might have that bone bruise for a couple weeks, and they hurt.
For normal daily wear, they would last me a half-year of alot of walking around. I didn't wear them in winter.
I have tried hunting in them. You feel everything on the ground in them. Alos even just morning dew soaks them and they get heavy and very slick. Unless you are wanting to try it for reasons other than lightweight minimalism, I wouldn't advise it.
I tried hiking in them, but I wouldn't repeat it. The comfort was fine, but the durability wasn't good. Leather softens when wet, so walking over damp ground soaked the leather and wore a hole through them fairly quickly.
In dry conditions, I like them, but unless I can guarantee dry conditions, I won't hike in them.
Thanks. I was mostly just curious. It makes sense that stepping on rocks and roots would be ouch ouch ouch. Are they a lot quieter for hunting?
They are very quiet while hunting. Mine aren't mocs per say, they come up to the knee and are lined with wool. So I tried them walking in young pines. They are quiet but when wet you'll bust your butt. If its dry I still use them for stalking.
