Removing Labels

I just now looked at my Patagonia label and it would be simple to remove it carefully with a seam ripper. Then massage it a little to close up the holes. You could also just sew something else over it.

In many ways this is a very sad topic!! And without a doubt a first world ‘issue’ (it’s certainly not a problem!!).

But I have had a pathological dislike for labels like the original poster; it’s funny I can’t fully explain why, but nor can I put my finger on why I dislike the taste of tomatoes.  There hasn’t got to be a sound reason for something so trivial, and let’s face it is.

One thing I have found after 20+years of removing labels and sticking over them, is that many cottage manufacturers are happy to put their logo on the inside, or not print/attach one at all, if you ask. In the UK I’ve found PHD to particularly helpful with this.  I often don’t buy gear from manufacturers if they through stitch their logos on, apart from some RAB waterproof overtrousers that sadly have a nice round patch over the logo.  It is quite pathetic, but I hold my hands up without shame as it something harmless to others that I sign up to.

Other than this I have nothing other to add to this silly little topic, that totally chimes with me too!!

Hi Kevin,

I’ve removed a sewn-on Patagonia label and there was no glue underneath. Like Piper says, it’s a simple job for a seam ripper to pop the stitches. To avoid damage to the garment, I’d suggest using the seam ripper to cut the stitches on top of the patch, instead of between the patch and the sweater.

If you wanted to double-check for glue yourself, you could pop a couple of stitches along the bottom and stick a pencil point or safety pin to feel underneath the label, but in my experience the patches are sewn-on only.

Thank you all for the help. Patagonia label came off easily using my little victorinox classic (following Greg’s advice to cut the stitches on top of the patch prevented any damage to the sweater).

FS: Like new Patagonia label, on sale for $40 :p
