I posted this in the gear deals section but will also post here. This is part of the newsletter GG sent out:
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENTS
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
As always there is a lot going on here, and though it's the slow season for us
our heads are full of thoughts and ideas for the coming months. This, of course,
means that we're working on bringing you new, better, and lighter gear that
continues to be innovative and affordable. I must say that this is one of the
more joyous and frustrating aspects of cottage manufacture in the US. We love
thinking up this stuff and trying it out but it takes an amazing amount of time
and work to bring a single new prodcuct to the market. Because of this some of
the things we'd hoped to have available by now are not here, but rest assured
they will, and for this reason I'm going to restrain myself from spilling too
many beans too soon.
NEW
1. The new Thinlight Wide/Longs and Longs. Glen, Jeff, Ryan, and I are not
hammock campers but after much feedback from that group we've changed these pads
a bit. They are now 1/4" thick for more warmth and you can find them at
http://www.gossamergear.com/cgi-bin/gossamergear/thinlight.html in all their
detail.
UPCOMING
1. The Mariposa Plus 2007 model. This one is in the last stages of development
and should make it's first appearance in very early 2007. It will feature new,
more traditional Small, Medium, and Large sizing and a removable waist belt
for a more precise fit. If you are a long trail hiker, thru-hiker, or bushwacker
this may be the pack for you.
2. The Miniposa. After much cajoling from myself and anxious customers Glen
gets it, sort of. It'll never make a sub 3-lb list but for the rest of us mere
mortals it's a sweet spot combo of features, volume, and weight. I have a
prototype and it's my go-to pack. I love it and we'll be putting some out
shortly after the Plus. You've heard about it, a smaller (mini) Mariposa.
Details forthcoming. BTW, color will be a pale grey.
3. Code named "The Murmur", this is the pack that Glen Van Peski carries these
days and sometime soon we'll be offering it. Part G5, part Whisper, it's the
pack many insanely low base weight heroes have yearned for. Nuff said.
4. The poncho anorak rain thingy. NOT a poncho/tarp, just some great dedicated
rain gear. Imagine a rain jacket that fits over your pack, is really light but
not all floppy in the breeze and you're getting close. The first prototype of
this is looking very good.
CHANGES
1. Because of the aforementioned "Murmur" we are probably going to discontinue
both the Whisper and the G5. Both are great packs but the time has come for us
to move forward with our pack line. The G5 may well be offered this coming year
in a slightly modded sil version but the classic spinnaker model will be phased
out.
We are offering you, subscribers only, the Classic G5 while they last for $90.00
and you can find them here at
http://www.gossamergear.com/cgi-bin/gossamergear/G5-Standard-deal.html
Ditto the G6 Whisper Uberlight. Man that's a lot of name for a 4 oz pack.
Offered to subscribers only at $60.00 and $80.00 for a belted model at
http://www.gossamergear.com/cgi-bin/gossamergear/g6_whisper_uberlight_deal.html
Currently we only have the small hip belt version but will be getting a few more
of the large belted model.
