Who makes a UL notebook

Depending on the size you’re looking for, stapling one yourself might be your lightest option.

Barring that one of the smaller Rite in the Rain might be suitable.

Agree with Joshua. Buy an airmail writing pad — then cut down to desired size / pages — then staple together. Done.

Would a piece of blank copy paper folded in quarters work for you as an 8 page DIY Notebook? Or maybe you'd prefer the deluxe 16 page model ….(2 sheets paper)

PocketMod is a website that lets you use a bunch of templates to make your own 8-page notebook. It doesn’t use both sides of the paper, but the way it folds ends up making it a lot stronger and more useful than normal printer paper.

As a blunt pencil stub & folded up, wadded-paper-in-the-pocket-old-school kinda guy, I love it. Adds some order to the scraps I usually carry (on-trail or off).

Electronics….blah.

Man…I just looked at it again: You can even print a Morse Code reference sheet, emergency contacts, conversions, etc…It's like a Neanderthal PDA!

As much as I love technology and the interwebs… I've got to agree with you. Paper and pencil/pen just feel so good.

Here's another thing that I've used on occasion:
The Hipster PDA is great. Print off these templates on either regular paper or cardboard stock and you're good to go. Of course, the easiest PDA is just a plain stack of index cards held together with a binder clip. Works very well with beautiful simplicity.

The PocketMod is a brilliant bit of work. Perfect for notes on an overnighter. The Hipster PDA is nice and simple too. I like that off the shelf assembly.

I've used the Rite in the Rain 371-M is good– a tiny stapled notebook with waterproof paper. The Moleskine Pocket Cahier (formally call the Volant) is sold in a pack of three and is just right for UL hiking. For longer trips I would go for the Pocket Notebook. Add a Fisher Stowaway Space Pen and you're a budding travel writer :)

You can just lop a short stack of 8-1/2×11 paper in half, fold it all down the middle, drill a few holes in the fold and sew it together with some Spectra fishing line or something similar.

I use a Palm IIIxe that will go a month on a pair of AAA batteries, loaded with classic books and great for taking notes, alarm clock, etc, etc. When travelling, a folding keyboard turns it into a 6oz work processor.

The Pocekt MOd is fabulous. Love the totally customizable ability!

FYI, Rite in the Rain makes waterproof paper for copiers/printers, so conceivably you could print your Mod on that paper and have a fantastic backcountry notepad.
