Well, I went back over to ebay and found a new listing for Boy Scouts 30F down sleeping bags, NIB, 2.55lbs, for $35/each with free shipping. I've seen them listed before, like over a year ago, but missed out. By chance they hat two on there again so I bought both of them. I have no idea how good they are but they should arrive today or tomorrow and maybe I'll post back with a review. For $70 total, imo, I couldn't go wrong. There' absolutely no way they can be any worse than thier current Walmart, 5+lb, incompressible, rectangular bags. They've slept in those bags to below freezing temps with a few layers on without complaining…
Now, to find some reasonable kids' backpacks, that don't weigh 3+ lbs empty, and don't cost a small fortune…
btw- I have six kids. I'd like to start taking the three older ones on overnight hikes with me (and maybe the 4th), but can't afford to flat out buy all that gear in one shot… Piece by piece, myog when I can, etc…
