Has anybody tried the FireLite solid fuel tablets sold on this site, specifically the 10g size? I'm looking for something to boil 500ml.

Thanks!

I used them on my recent trip to the Grand Canyon.

I got the 14g ones and burned 1/2 a cube each night for our meal. I usually boiled betwee 1 and 2 cups of water with that amount. I used 4 for 6 days of hiking.

They left residue in the stove (BPL wing) and on the pot bottom, but I think I love them. Pretty easy to start, easier to deal with than alcohol.

Thumbs up from me. I kinda wish it wouldn't residue on the bottom of the cup, but oh well.

More for newbies to L/UL than for Wade,

one thing i learned fr/the Forums about dealing with the residue, is to merely place the stove and mug/pot in a baggy or stuff sack to keep the residue from getting on any other gear.

simple solution which makes solid fuel a little more attractive to "mr/ms neat-hiker" (it take one to know one ;).

Yes, they have a funny smell.

I found that the residue from these tabs dries hard and does not really get on anything else.

If you’re using Ti pots, you’re probably safe to burn off the residue (I can’t imagine it’s much worse than hardened creosote / soot) when you get back home.

The residue of most hexamine fuel is water soluble. You don't even need soap, just a little soak and rinse.

Having a stock of hex, I have not tried the FireLite, but you might give water a try and let us all know how it works.
