Currently the boots I use are 447 grams (15.8 oz) each. Is that what you would consider a heavy boot? I WAY prefer boots, so I don't want to make this a debate of low vrs. high topped foot wear. Just wondering what everyone's opinion of heavy is, esp. for boot weight.

Thanks.

UPDATE: BTW, they are size 8 1/2.

I don't think that's heavy for a boot, but if ascending in them all day makes your hip flexors scream in agony, then they're too heavy.

Its been a while since I looked at boots, but I think 15.8 oz each is pretty light – unless you are rocking some seriously tiny feet. My lowcut runners weigh 12.75oz each in size 11 so you aren't far off. Typically, I compare other products with the same features to see if I can find lighter versions – are there many boots out there that are lighter?

this is what i am looking at here this morning. all size 11 wide

Kenetrek (really asolo sasalong's rebranded) = 33.1 oz EACH
meindle tetonn 2 = 33 oz each
meindle Perfects (the best of the lot) 33.1 oz each
LLbean cresta hikers will spec center of the range too , we know from experience.

so we can see the range is very tight. uncanny is it not ..
all are fitted with superfeet green inserts and have been Well used, this means they are also carrying a good load of oil.

so that's what we use on this end. i suspect they (all of them) are slowing me down in some situations. but make up for it in others.
lighter of course, would be better is it was as safe.
the asolo clones are the least wearable of any recent boots i've had. excess much rocker, etc.

the Meindle Perfect's are awesome in a great many ways. but, due to bunnions, i still find a need to carry my 1.8oz boot stretching tool and use it on occasion. so we can add .9 oz for each shoe to the total for that little ditty.

cheers,
peter v.

The lighest boots available that I can find are the Inovate Rocklite 288 at 10 oz for an 8.5 but they are Gore Tex lined.

A new shoe that is just out is the Saucony Progrid Outlaw which weigh in at 11.5 oz (doesn't give size) unfortuately you have to live with Saucony's awful color scheme.

I have not purchased either of these shoes but I am considering them when I replace my shoes next summer. I am considering going back to a little more ankle support than I have had in the past. I wish the Inov8's were available in a boot without Goretex.

If you feel a sense of relief when you take your boots off at the end of a hike, they are too heavy.
