I'm looking for a tent for winter backcountry elk hunts it needs to handle snow and wind. Another thing Is not only will we have our gear but we will have archery stuff and all our hunting equipment so I need it roomy. It will be for up two 3 people so preferably a true 4 person would be good. Last but not least It needs to be affordable say under 300

I doubt you'll find a a true tent that fits your criteria/budget
I would try these:

if you're buying used, you'll have more options. Say, a used TT hogback.
I doubt that you will find anything meeting your criteria. Get a North Face VE-25 or Mountain-25. It fits three people fine, and I have put four in there on several trips.

Another tent you might want to check out is the Nemo Pentalite: http://www.nemoequipment.com/nemo2011-pentalite2011-tent
It is a little over your budget, but not much.
+1 For the TNF VE-25, it is over your budget. But it is one hell of a great 4 season tent, truly bomb proof. It has room for gear, but probably not enough extra room in any 3 person tent for packs plus hunting gear, but you may be able to squeeze it all in comfortably depending on what all you have. I would recommend a small tarp area maybe for gear. You can pick up some small cheap tarps for $30 or less and use solely for gear.
You may not need something like the VE-25, how much snow is normal for that time of year? the ve-25 is designed to withstand heavy snowloads and high winds in exposed areas.
the trango2 is better then the VE25 IMO, whats light weight for you and what does 4 season mean?
A mega-mid might be the lightest/roomyest for the price but is less secure then a trango or maybe a hillberg (which is over twice your budget).
I know a few people who consider a flat tarp as being a 4-season shelter when pitched for conditions. Oware and many others have 10×12 or bigger flat tarps.
I'd say up too a foot of snow is possible this time
Of year possibly more but not Likely these hunts are in Colorado and northern new Mexico at elevations of 8,000-10,000+ anywhere from september to January
You can also check out the Golite Utopia 4. I have one but I'm not planning on using it for winter. Its 8×8' and just over 3 pounds.
It seems like many of the larger floorless pyamid style shelters would meet your requirements if floorless works for you, not likely to be any bugs during hunting season.
Yes, floorless would give greater flexibility in site selection as well.
It would allow a single wall shelter as condensation would not collect and would instead run into the ground.
