Any suggestions for a 4 night 5 day hike somewhere in the midwest ? Thinking anywhere within 12 or so hours of Green Bay, WI. I have done quite a bit of hiking in the U.P so any suggestions beside that would be great.
Thanks in Advance!
Aug 16, 2011 at 6:32 am #1769878How about crossing the UP to Lake Superior Provincial Park or Pukaskwa?

I hiked the coastal trail in LSPP long ago, very nice. Better IMO then the options in the UP, like the porkies or pictured rocks. I haven't had a chance to do Pakaskwa, but I remember that park had a problem bear recently, and may have shut down part of the coastal trail there.
Aug 16, 2011 at 7:42 am #1769903The Superior Hiking Trail. http://www.shta.org/index.php
Aug 17, 2011 at 9:48 am #1770338I have done parts of the superior trail, it might be a solid option for this trip, but I would like to try out something new.
Canada would also be an option, but one of our group does not have a passport/passcard so I am not sure if that would work out.
Any other ideas for short 4-5 day trips?
Aug 17, 2011 at 10:41 am #1770359Looks like 12 hours should be plenty to get you to the Ozark Trail.

Aug 18, 2011 at 8:42 am #1770686Canada – I had to escalate a passport last time mine expired and it still took 2.5 weeks and I believe it was $150… so that would be cutting it clost.
The Maah Daah Hey and Ozark Trails both seem like very viable options. I was just in S.Dakota for a badlands trip about a month again and it was great (minus the tremendous amount of rain that got dumped on us one night….sticky situation)!
So glad I signed up to be a member of BPL! Experience and helpful suggestions from other members is great!!!!
Aug 21, 2011 at 10:55 pm #1771815FYI Maah Daah Hey Trail is half under water. Was just in that area a few weeks ago.
Aug 22, 2011 at 11:24 am #1771907Well that narrows out that trail. Guess that leaves Ozarks or could possibly do Isle Royale since it's a lot closer.
Unless anyone else has any other suggestions.
