I was wandering through a local Army surplus store, and I got to the aisle for ropes and cords. Of course, we are always looking for some really strong and really lightweight cords, especially if the price is right. I found one cord sold on a spool with a label saying "Micro Cord, 1.8mm x Approx. 125 ft. Atwood Rope Mfg." This is bright yellow and braided. I paid the cashier out of my pocket change, so it is not like it was a big investment.

I checked the web site, and the Micro Cord is called 1.18mm with no strength rating. So, I am trying to figure out what I have that was so cheap. I haven't found my micrometer yet to determine whether it is 1.8 or 1.18.

Naturally, I have not unspooled it to figure out the net weight without the plastic spool, but the whole thing is about 1.6 ounces. Cute. I know it is good for something.

the armed services use a "type 1" accessory cord, that might be what you have- it's rated @ ~ 100#, they mainly use it for dummy cords (to strobes, compasses, etc)

Hmmm. That sounds good enough for the price I paid. Thanks.

When I was in the military, we had mostly manila and metal chain.

The price for 125 feet was $2.99 plus tax.

As for military time periods, we had to use some kind of cord to tie our powder horns over our shoulder. Otherwise, our muskets were useless. Centerfire cartridges were a big thing, but I was getting out by then.

General Taylor wouldn't let us shoot any of that new stuff. Not Maxwell Taylor. It was Zachary Taylor.
