Anybody use this as their main pad? I currently use a 3/8" one, but for the summer, I would think I can take a 1/8" pad.

I have done it before but can honestly say it is not something I enjoyed all that much. It's the sort of feeling where initially it doesn't seem too bad and then throughout the night, certain spots of your body start to crave some padding. I don't need a lot of padding, but it really is nice to have something a little more substantial under your hip/shoulder/bones etc. Of course, everyone is different so why not give it a go and see how it works out for you.

FWIW, I recall that the GG website USED to say that the 1/8" pad provides insulation for when only a little is needed but provides little or no padding.

For midwestern (low altitude) summer camping three decades ago I routinely slept with no pad, just a sleeping bag on a ground sheet. But that's a YMMV thing … can that work for you?

(These days my pack doesn't leave home without a NeoAir!)

I use mine in combination with my GG nightlight torso length. It serves as more of an insulated ground cloth to keep my bag/quilt off of the pine needles. I don't use it for padding though. Way too thin (and I'm a 17 year old).

I bought the GG thinlight 1/8 for use in a bivy and I have to admit that it is not worthless, but it is not all that far away – at least for me. If I can manage to find a soft spot to put down at, it is ok, but if there are any rocks or roots or ruts it just does not do much in the way of padding.

It should be noted of course that other than using the term "pad" that GG does not really market the 1/8 as a "pad" (in the traditional sense) and instead markets this item as an "insulation".

For its insulation qualities, I think it is a pretty good option.

Suluk46 1/8" pads are 24" wide vs GG 20".

I use them alone when I go for my record runs or trying to push the limits of distance on an overnighter.
I'll use a polycryo groundcloth with a torso length 1/8" pad.

You are so tired when you go to get some sleep that it doesn't matter what you're sleeping on. I just find soft ground and I'm asleep in 2 minutes, so I guess it's comfortable enough?

“Anybody use this as their main pad?”
No. Just for insulation. I bring it if the temperature will be below freezing; I put it on my Neoair.

I use mine on top of my Neo as well in the colder months. It works great as a little extra insulation!

I have always "enjoyed" having my thick plush pad under me, but for weight's sake, as well as using the pad as a support in my pack as well, I am thinking about trying a ZLite…
