    Lost Coast

Headed out last week with the family. Late start from Mattole River, heading south. Nice late afternoon beach walking, the lighthouse is a convenient place to get out of the wind, eat some lunch. Headed down to Spanish Flat the next day, stopped for a swim in Randall Creek, one of the lovelier spots I've ever been on the coast. Wildflowers out. Got blown out in Spanish Flat, next time will head up canyon for more shelter. Hiked back to Mattole next day, another gorgeous late afternoon, saw seals on beach, enjoyed dunes at the end.

Only sour spot to trip was lots of trash on trail, and crap and toilet paper seemingly under every rock, and in the light house. Not sure why folks can't get it together on that front.

A hat tip to Ken Thompson for some pre-trip tips.

For those considering going, I would say
    a) do it, it's really a unique spot.
    b) be mentally prepared for non-stop high wind, and little shade.
    c) if it were raining, with the high wind, you'd have a real challenge staying warm. would test skills and gear. In fair weather, it's pretty hard to go wrong.
