I was issued this stove last year. We expected great things from it, the technology behind it rocks. In use though, it has issues. There is no wind screen making the boil time longer than advertised. It also dosen’t burn as hot as white gas, The biggie though is that it LEAKS like crazy because a small amount of fuel needs to be present to prime the ceramic disk. Not so much of a problem with white gas, it will evaporate quickly, but jp-8 is very slow to evaporate and it reeks, soon everything smells like jp-8 along with give you a splitting head ache.
jp-8 was chosen over white gas because it runs almost everthing in the military. I still think the stove has a lot of potential, as soon as they convert it to white gas. As for availability, if I can eat a jumbo Gulf shrimp in a double landlocked country, then I think Uncle Sam can bring in some white gas.

There’s a similar thread right now on backpacking.net. Development of the stove appears to be more problematic than originaly thought but the good news is MSR still feels confident that they can bring it to the market in a couple of years.
