Has anyone been over Kearsarge Pass yet this year?
I loaned out my maps, are there any significant stream crossings up and over to the JMT junction?
My teenage son is taking that route with another group and meeting us on the JMT and I just want to know how much I need to worry about him!
My son's group will start on August 12.
Jul 19, 2011 at 6:10 pm #1761025I've been reading reports.
Apparently east of the pass there is a bit of snow left. I don't remember any significant streams. West of the pass, the snow is melting fast, and there is a lot of marshy area before you get to the trail junctions. That will dry out in a few weeks. I don't remember any significant streams on that side either.

Jul 19, 2011 at 7:18 pm #1761042I think there is no streams west of the pass Dave if I remember correctly. The east side have some but nothing to worry about. Enjoy your hike! I wish I could do this trip this year!

Jul 22, 2011 at 8:07 am #1761956I went up June … 30th I think. The top two lakes were still frozen and there was a fair amount of snow the last mile or so. I didn't go over, but took a picture looking past the pass.
The last lake:
