Does anyone know which processor the Suunto X9i and/or X9Mi has? I have a request into them but have not heard back. Their site does not list it either.

How does the GPS and this watch in general compare to the new Garmin GPS Forerunners?

TIA, Jhaura

I am unaware of which processor the X9i uses, Suunto designed or third party. Note that antenna position and design also have a big impact on wrist mounted GPS units!

My Suunto X9i GPS REVIEW goes into detail on the performance of the X9i in comparison to Garmin’s (non-SiRF) GPS products like the old Forerunners (101 and 201).

To my knowledge, Suunto does not have any product with the GPS performance of the new Garmin SiRF based products like the Edge and Forerunner 205 or 305. You might wish to refer to my Summer OR posting for more on this:

Smaller Lighter High-performance GPS Units (Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2006)

We will also have a longish piece on GPS in the next issue of our print magazine. The new Garmin SiRF units are discussed.

Take care, -Alan
