Dear All,

Am having some problems pitching my new Golite Hex 3. It’s November and chilly, with winds blowing (!) and getting a taut pitch on the Hex wihtout having it too far off the ground is a bit of a challenge. If I want it taut, the bottom line stands at least 2-3 inches off the ground, and even with the bathtub floor (which I can’t get the sides of to stand up properly) the wind gets in underneath. I’ve heard they’re good on ventilation, but this is too much…

Any tips on getting it just right?

I’ve come to the conclusion with my Hex 2 that it’s easier to place windbreaks around the perimeter than to pitch it flush to the ground. Not really an answer, but the adjustable loops seem to not work so well when pulling straight out–they seem to be more effective when at an angle.

Hopefully, somebody else will share a better technique.

I worked on a possible solution last weekend.

I attached small bulldog clips to the top lip of the bathtub floor on all 6 sides – 2 on each hexagonal stretch. I then threaded some cord through each of the bulldog clips and also through the attachment to the actual canopy where the floor normally clips in. This gave me a line running the entire internal circumference of the tent attached to the top lip of the floor and the six points of the canopy floor attachment.

By pulling the string taut I was able to raise the lip of the floor to an upright position in some measure, blocking the breeze coming in underneath. For it to work well I will need to sew small loops in place of the bulldog clips but the principle is sound. I’ll let you know how the finished version pans out!
