Has anyone used this piece?

According to Eddie Bauer it contains 2.7 oz of down yet weighs only 9.5oz.

I picked up one this weekend on sale and when compared to a nano puff in 45 degree weather sitting on my deck, both seemed very comparable in warmth. I would think the Microtherm should be at least as warm as a 100g primaloft jacket.

Double layer loft is 5/8"

Does anyone have some insight?

I haven't tried it yet. I was thinking it would be about 10F degrees warmer than a fleece. With the full zip making it much more versitile to vent.

How does it pack down?

Packs down to the size of a small grapefruit which is great.

The people at the Eddie Bauer store and their live chat convinced me that it should be at least as warm as their Igniter (100g primaloft). I sent an email to WhittakerMountaineering and their responce agreed with my limited observation "The Microtherm is a very lightweight down shirt. It would be more similar to a 60g insulated jacket. It is quite warm for the weight."

For the extra 2 oz I think ill stick with a nano puff since this is a peice that will most likely be used when on the move or at rest stops when I may be sweaty. But everyone has different priorities/needs.

something with 2.7 oz of 800 down should be much warmer than a nano … especially as the temp drops

but as yr using it on the move occasionally … stick with the nano

Stopped by EB on Friday. Hate the fit of Micropuffs, but what sold me on the Microtherm was that it fit my tall, skinny frame so much better. Too bad my sizes were outta stock.

For anyone interested though, heads up – was told that that everything will be 40% off online Monday for "Cyber Monday", whatever that is.

I picked one up to layer it with their downlight sweater or on it's own. I want to eliminate my fleece. It packs to a fraction of what polartec thermal pro packs. This way I can use my camelback as my daypack. However since it would be on top of my base layer I am kind of worried about sweat. I am really curious how the nano puff would compare to the microtherm in the real world.

over 9 ounces for 2.7 ounces of down ? my stoic hadron has that for 6.6 ounces and my Rab alpinelight has 5 ounces of down for 10 ounce total weight
