Patagonia Ultralight Down Jacket and Hoody

Yeah, for that price it would be WM all day.

I really like the fit of these a lot. Compared to similar MB or WM products, the fits is much closer, longer, and more efficient. I agree, price sucks, but a great product

M's Down Sweater uses 85 g,
Ultralight Jacket 85 g,
Ultra light Shirt  56.5 g

these numbers would suggest the ultralight jacket would be pretty nice, considering it has the same amount of 800 fill but a slimmer fit.
of course, that price is hard to swallow.

Comparable to WM's Flash Jacket – probably a slightly lighter weight at a higher price.

I think this is a great line, but way too pricey. I'm not sure they can price the Jacket at $200 (same as their Down Sweater), but I don't know how many they can sell at these prices.

I agree, and from my experience it isn't too hard at all to find this type of product from Patagonia 30 percent off. These jackets still wouldn't be a bargain by any means, but at that level of discount they become very competitive with much of the rest of the market.

Its nearly impossible to discuss Patagonia product here without these words popping up: cost, price, sale, expensive, clearance, coupon, web special, discount, deal, pricey, etc…. just an observation. They sure don't make it easy to avoid.

The jacket looks sharp, a trim and lean Patagonia Down Sweater. It definitely looks to layer better under a shell than its older sibling, and the cut appears more suitable for lean folks.

Awesome how the Canadian Dollar is 10% higher than the constantly declining Greenback but the pricing in Canada goes Shirt 300, Jacket 330, Hoody 360. and they're never on sale in Canada(ALWAYS excluded in stores sales…)

These look great, have a no questions warranty(look up the recent montbell thread)and can easily be found for at least 20% off. the fit is better than montbell for me and the colors are way nicer

I agree SO many people focus on the price of stuff, everything is so cheap in the states… oh well I guess my healthcare is free…

I had the Patagonia pullover down hoody. Very well made, plenty warm, well designed. I sold it to a member on this forum because I wanted a full zipper.;

One can often find the Patagonia stuff on sale, especially at the end of the season.

The WM Flash jacket takes the Patagonia Hoody to town. 900 vs 800 fp, a chest pocket!?!?, and zippered pockets and adjustable hood means that the Flash jacket will definitely be warmer for the weight. They definitely don't have 3oz in this jacket, either. Of course, you don't get the Patagonia warranty, but I'm sure the WM warranty is no slouch.

When I first saw Patagonia's Ultralight Down Shirt I was really excited, until I saw the price tag and the weight. The same goes for the new parka and jacket. There is no way you'd get me to pay $300.00 US for a Parka I can buy from Mont Bell for $175.00 especially since the MB version is listed at 7.7oz for wm's and the Patagonia is 8.9oz. $125.00 more for 1.2oz more in weight? They can keep that. The jacket version is also $125.00 more than MB for 1.8oz more in weight. The Shirt is $85 more than the Ex Light for .6 more oz. That's not complaining about expense that's called being smart with money. Now when it comes to things like base layers, Patagonia has shown to be worth the extra dough and I'm happy to lay it down for a set of Cap 2's.

Honestly my biggest issue with the cost and I think a lot of people here would agree is, Mont Bell seems to put out similar products for less money, a LOT less money, so why can't Patagonia? What in the world did they add to that jacket to make it so much more?

One of the biggest things Patagonia offers over MontBell is the warranty (and actually honoring it). Another is the environmental aspect. Those are worth the price difference for some, not so much for others.

Jo, please look at fill weights. Patagonia's Ultralight Jacket and Hoody don't compare with MontBell's EX Light or UL Down lines – they're MUCH warmer garments.

Chris – I get the environmental thing, although I've never personally had any issue with warranty, I know others have but I don't have $300 to throw down on anything let alone one item.

Stephen- Could you either point me to that info or post it here. For some reason I'm not seeing where Patagonia's fill weights are listed.
