Anyone have any suggestions on alternatives to the ID eVENT rain jacket? I’m getting ready to throw down some jack on a nice shell and the ID is the front-runner right now. I know Montane and a couple of other companies are using eVENT, but I don’t know much about them. Is it worth looking at something I can’t get here in the states (ie Montane, Rab etc.)?

Any help input would be much appreciated…

Caleb,
If I had the cash Id go with the ID Event with optional pit-zips (at an additional cost).
If you have a limit of about $130, go for the North Face Diad; mine just arrived and I am very impressed. It is WB/B, has taped seams, fully articulated three draw hood, pit zips, chest pocket etc, at 7oz and $130 at campmor.

But before I got that, in my ignorance, I bought.. Gen1 ECWS parka, REI Elements PU, Columbia Goretex, and Teva eVENT. All good but too heavy!

Something like the DIAD or ID eVENT seems like a one-jacket solution for windshirt and rain protection.. but returing to my point, consider the DIAD. Let us all know what you get and how it works out?

I must have posted this somewhere around here, Gill makes an event jacket with pit zips, it’s called the adrenaline, Performance Bike has it on sale @ $139.99… no hood so you got to wear a hat.

brett,
good call on the north face jacket. i usually automatically ignore TNF (Hollywood factor) but that seems like a nice mix of features/weight/price. campmor only has them in med thru xl though. need a small.

*sigh* the tribulations of being a tiny person…

I have a green medium for sale- ID jackets run a bit small so might be your size. Does not have pit zips however. Only reason I’m selling it is that I’m a medium to large, so it’s a bit too small.

Caleb,
It might sound strange at first, but I’ve read about some posters doing this; just buy the women’s version of the DIAD. Its cut the same, small color patern variation; no one will know or care. It’s 6.5 oz, and same price at campmor down to W’s XS.
If I knew about the DIAD earlier I definitely would have bought it.

Womens clothes work. I don’t own a women’s DIAD but I do own several other pieces. Besides sizing up a touch they usually fit just like the mens. No one will know besides your significant other :)
