Anyone have one of thier packs? How well do they stand up? I’m looking at the Hydro 30 but I’m a bit scared that it doesn’t have and internal frame, as far as I can tell…

Brian,
i’m not familiar with the Karrimor packs. so, you might be wondering, why am i replying to you. read on…
many of the L/UL packs that are mentioned in these Forums and that the Forum Posters /Participants use are also FRAMELESS rucksucks.
we create a v-frame (a virtual frame) from…
a) using our sleeping pad (search the BPL website and/or the Forums and you will find a lot of info on how to create a v-frame using a sleeping pad)
-and (if the pack has sufficient capability in this area)
b) employing the pack’s compression straps and/or lacing to attempt to make a more solid mass of the contents of the pack.
such an arrangment won’t support many tens of pounds of weight, but works well when the fully loaded pack weight, and this varies from pack to pack, is 20lb or less, and with some claims of 25lb (and even 30lb GoLite Gust, and SMD Starlite w/o stays, IIRC – don’t quote me on the Starlite w/o checking first).
so, once one has a good grasp on the philosophy and technique of L/UL packing, the concept of a frameless rucksack is not that intimidating.
hope this info helps. if it creates more questions in your mind, post back and someone else will certainly answer your questions.
