I just posted a simple trip report on a recent 2 nighter in the Grayson Highlands of Virginia. Enjoy!

Nice report.I have done over 30 backpacking trips to Mt. Rogers. The official , unofficial name for the shelter you stayed at is the "yuppie shelter". Mice are active down to 12 degrees!
Probably the most popular hiking spot in the south. I have met over 120 backpackers on one trip. To paraphrase Yogi Berra "the place is so crowded no one goes there anymore!" With some effort you can still find solitude. On a clear day you can see Roan mt.

Thanks for posting it. And a darn fine looking tarp you had there!

Nice TR, I live in Colorado now, but am from the southeast and went to school in Boone NC. GH was definatly one of our stomping grounds all through school. Such an awesome place especially in the late fall and winter when the crowds deminish.

Ed, I'm loving the tarp. I will be sewing on the other style line locks sooner or later though.

You can definitely tell that this is a well traveled area… really too many people for my taste but it was still worth seeing something new. Its never bad to spend two nights out, right?!
