Greetings everyone. I will be stopping in Bergen this August en route to visit the in laws and was planning on getting a few bag nights in. I was hoping someone here could answer a few questions for me.

    1. Where is a good place to pick up a canister for my snowpeak gigapower, and what time do they close on Mondays?

    2. What is the bug situation like in August?

    3. Anywhere in particular you would recommend within walking distance? Planning on 3 nights out andI am familiar with Norways open land policy.

I really wanted to get over to Jotunheimen but don't want to spend a day traveling in each direction. Thanks in advance.

    1. Widely available, but the specialist outdoor shops like Platou are open until 1900.
    2. Normally a lot better than Scotland at this time of year – but take some repellent!
    3. From Bergen, take a train to Finse – lots of possibilities for 3 nights out on Hardangervidda or Skarvheimen. Take a look at the DNT website for ideas.

i don't know the Bergen area well, but DNT (http://turistforeningen.no/english/) runs a network of cabins and trail all over. They also have trip-planning site: http://ut.no/finn?search=Bergen

    Happy hiking!
