Hiking partner is wife. I need a tent with a max weight of 2 lbs. She isn't quite an ultralight believer yet ( I'm the pack mule). tarps are out. Looking at lightheart duo or double rainbow. Suggestions? Hiking in east. High humidity. Lots of bugs

+1 on the Lunar Duo. It's 2.5 pounds, but well worth the extra weight. My wife and I have used a lot of tents, and this is our favorite.

Another one here in the "my wife loves the Lunar Duo" club. Very spacious tent.

My boyfriend and I share a Lunar Duo. He carries the tent part of it and I carry the poles, stakes and ground sheet. I've been trying to convince him that we don't need the poles or the ground sheet, but he's not quite buying it even though it's true.

When I was doing my research earlier this year I definitely liked this tent. I wanted something freestanding though and went a different way. What is great about the LD tent is the huge real estate inside. And the verticle exterior walls. Some tents may have a larger floor area, but they also have significantly sloping walls which really makes them less usable.

Check out my thread here http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/forums/thread_display.html?forum_thread_id=43713&skip_to_post=372658#372658 . It is focused on the lighter options for two and has both tarp tents and freestanding ones. I hope it helps.

Anyone know how this compares to lunar duo? Smaller but big enough for two? Ease of setup? I like the lighter weight

Another vote for the Lunar Duo. It is a very spacious tent inside, and not too heavy considering what it is. I do agree that the poles can be left behind, but I am not ready to give up the ground sheet… My only complaint is how much the floor moved around, but I painted the bottom with a little silicone and that fixed it up a little better.

I have the older version of the Haven with bug net inner.

The new Haven looks like it has a bigger foot print. The old version fit in more places, but I think most people found it awkward to set up and the steep walls meant more rain splash.

Compared to the Lunar Duo, the double wall aspect and shape of the Haven is cooler in summer and less condensation as there is a lot more mesh surface for air to flow through. And being that the mesh inner is separate, you can leave the fly or bug net home depending.

The inner net floor space of the old Haven is as wide as a queen size bed and long enough to store gear at the head or foot.

I hear that the Lunar Duo is also huge.

But be aware that huge also means there will be less good spots to pitch the tent.

I had a Lunar Duo which has great size but my wife did not like the condensation so I got a 2010 Haven. It has plenty of room, is easy to set up and with the double wall,so far, condensation has not been a problem. Seam sealed with stakes it weighs 39 1/2 oz. We will be using it on the West Coast Trail in August using only the tarp and a ground cloth.

I jumped in a new haven Ron had set up at kickoff with the wife. Again if she had never been in the duo she would have loved the haven…but…

Bottom line the haven is sweet but not as roomy as the duo….more or less like the ligh heart in roominess
