I have a BA Insulated Air Core that I purchased used for my wife and for me to use when I needed the insulation vs. carrying two pads. I'm not sure how old it is but it was fine the last time I used it.

Well when we went to use it the other day we found it had a gaping hole where it had started to come apart on the edge. I've read about people making inflatable with an iron but before I do anything I'd like a bit of input on the best way to make this repair.

If that gaping hole opened up spontaneously – versus the dog chewing on it – call Big Agnes and explain what you see. I'm willing to bet the farm you'll get a new mattress.

Big Agnes is pretty darn good when it comes to customer service.

I am not sure that I would try to reseal it with an iron. You might run the risk of doing more harm than good, since household irons can vary.

You may want to try Aquaseal and see if that does the trick. Aquaseal is a urethane glue that will remain flexible once it has cured. It works well to repair inflatables and heat sealable fabrics.

I thInk I'll start by contacting BA. At the least they may be able to recommend the best procedure to repair it.

Is aquaseal sort of like the paint on stuff they sell at Walmart for repairing air mattresses?

Aquaseal, is a clear urethane glue. I am not sure exactly what else it would be comparable to. The stuff used in most of the repair kits is akin to rubber cement.

It is specifically made for repairs to inflatables and water proof materials. My experience with Aquaseal and heat sealable nylon has yielded very positive results.

The stuff I'm talking about is a clear glue that stinks to high heaven that's generally used without patches. I've used it to good results on the inflatable mattresses they sell for home/car camping.

It's right next to the over priced patch kit that included rubber cement in the sporting goods section. It's marketed by Outdoor Products or whatever Wal-Mart's store brand is but I'm not sure what's in it.
