I am making a MYOG 1.1oz silnylon tarp, and I was wondering if I could simply take some doubled or quadrupled silnylon, sew that up, and the use it for tie-outs instead of webbing. Thoughts?

I also saw someone on youtube just using some ribbon purchased at Walmart. Is it a viable option?

Shane,

Thanks for the reference. Good info.

Looks like the weight of the webbing and sil nylon straps would be about the same, given the options tested. I'd probalby stick with the webbing because it is less work.

For all the tarps/tents I've ever made, I always use grosgrain. Its such a small microscopic difference in weights we are talking about. Its just not worth the work of quadrupling the silnylon.
